Hello all!! As Brooke’s husband, for the past several years, I have had the opportunity to provide input, suggestions, and thoughts for this blog, however, this is the first time I get to actually write for Family God Moments! If you are regular readers, I feel you know a lot about our little family already, and who we all are. I’m excited to be able to share some insights of my own with you. Continue reading
My son has been working through a social dilemma at school. Some friends have been teasing another boy in the class – a kind boy, but one who is overweight and a little socially awkward. My son has struggled – he feels pressure to say something and get a laugh from his friends, but is aware of the hurt it would cause this boy. Continue reading
I went to the dentist this week. I’m a grinder – not just the ‘grind at night’ type, but the all day, every day grinder. It’s a method of coping with stress and anxiety that is apparently causing significant harm to my teeth! The dentist bugged me for years to get a mouth guard, and I finally decided to go for it. I took time out from my busy day to have an impression made. (I’m grinding my teeth right now just thinking about it…) Continue reading
As the kids get older, it has become easier to pass the time during car rides, while standing in lines, or when waiting for the school bus. In the past few months, we have played a lot of “Would you rather…” The more we play, the better questions we get. Sure, my 5-year-old will still ask something like “Would you rather eat pizza or mashed potatoes?” But my 9-year-old? He’s posed some deep, thought-provoking questions lately; questions which demand reflection and honesty.
My 5-year-old is one of those kids who will struggle to get up and ready on school mornings, but be wide awake, dressed and ready to start her day by 6:00 am on Saturday! There are Saturday mornings when I lie there half asleep, yet can somehow sense her presence standing next to the bed. I’ll blink open one eye, and there she is – staring at me. This is infuriating when I’m desperate for a few more minutes of sleep! But usually, I’ll pull her under the covers with me and cherish the warm cuddles from this little girl who is growing up way too fast! Continue reading
I am blessed with amazing friends and family who love and support me – even though I am often stubborn and too independent! One dear friend stepped it up this week. She is a very busy mom struggling to balance life, yet took the time to deliver lunch to me on Friday. I enjoyed a spread of goodies from Panera, and got a tight hug in the middle of a chaotic day! To top it off, this friend agreed to be a guest writer for my weekly blog! I am thankful for one less thing on the “to do” list today, and am very excited to share her words. Her message is raw and sincere and inspiring… Enjoy!! Continue reading
My 9-year-old made a New Year’s Resolution: he would write in a journal every day. We sat together on his bed a couple of nights ago, and he showed me what he had written so far; little stories about his day, a note about a math test, frustration over a playground argument. I’m not sure where this sudden urge to write came from, but he seemed pleased with himself and eager to share. Continue reading
