Cheating on my Homework, Part 1

I am 5 weeks into an 8-week online class on the Lutheran Confessions, a study of “the collection of Reformation-era writings that provides the scriptural and theological foundations for Lutheran faith and practice.” This may sound tedious, but it has actually been an enriching opportunity, with real life application!

In the middle of an online class, the thought of writing more words about faith – words I actually have to let other people read – is exhausting! I’ve written all these things for class – weekly posts, papers, peer responses – all carefully constructed! Why can’t I use one of those? Yet every time I try to go the easy route and “steal” a writing from class for my blog, my husband will inevitably tell me… “It’s good. But it doesn’t really tell any stories about faith in our family.” Continue reading

Stories from Camp

Well, it has happened again! I’ve hit another busy season at work and chose to recruit help with my weekly post. This time I don’t feel so guilty about it…. (Though I did only ask one day in advance. That was a little unfair!) I recruited my husband to write. He worked with our 9-year-old son, and this is what they came up with. I am so thankful for my husband’s time and his passion for ministry, and thrilled for my son to have the opportunity to share his experience. Enjoy!!

Recently my wife and I had the opportunity to be chairpersons for a gala event for our nearby Lutheran church camp. What a daunting and exciting experience for us! Continue reading

Marked with the Cross – Forever!

I took my daughter to the Farmer’s Market this weekend. We arrived early; before the suffocating summer crowds could gather, before the heat of the day would beat down on the hard pavement. We weaved through the stalls, tasting breads and jams and marveling at the vibrant colors of the many June vegetables. Continue reading

Talk to your kids = good parenting and deeper faith!

The topic for this week was Sacraments, which seems a bit heavy for a casual, informal blog written by a non-theologian like myself. But the adult study discussions on weekly faith practices have consistently led to great conversation with my 6-year-old, so I continue on!
