It’s weird being human…

My daughter (my youngest, my baby!) turned 7 years old yesterday. Allow me to be a little nostalgic… She’s had a tremendous amount of growth in the last year – she can read a chapter book, tie her own shoes, get herself dressed. She is incredibly independent and self-sufficient. She knows what she wants, and she will do what it takes to make that happen! (Even if that means deceiving her parents…) Continue reading

Lost and found – and knowing my role!

Wednesday nights can be hectic! We rush home from work so we can rush to church. We enjoy our time there; it is loud and fun and worshipful! But dinner, education and worship is a lot to fit into 2 ½ hours. Then we rush home and get two tired kids to bed so we can attempt to pick up the house, wash some dishes or fold the laundry before we collapse into bed ourselves. Continue reading

Vocation, Occupation… Frustration!

I occasionally sneak over to Panera before work, set myself in a corner with some coffee and maybe a chocolate chip bagel, hook into iTunes, and then spend my time writing, praying, reading scripture and reflecting. I intend to stay for an hour, but it always becomes longer. Then I reluctantly pull myself back into the real world and drag myself to work.

As I drive to work, I begin to come down from the “mountaintop” as I consider how I must leave this wonderful, spiritual experience and sit at my desk in front of an excel spreadsheet to do my job. Is this truly my purpose in life?? Continue reading
